Yamaha QY70 Backup Battery

Replacing the 3V SONY CR2032 lithium backup battery on the Yamaha QY70 is easy. I replaced mine with a VARTA CR2032 lithium battery. I just removed the back cover, removed the battery from the socket and replaced it.

Press the battery towards the visible springs and lift up the battery. Very little force is needed. Avoid short-circuiting the new battery with your fingers, preferably use tweezers made of plastic. Whatever you do, do not attempt to move, remove or open the black plastic ring! Leave the black plastic ring alone!

Luckily, the battery had not leaked before I replaced it..., and the new one should probably be good for another 4 years.

Unfortunately, I do not find it easy to replace the battery: it sits tightly in a black plastic ring and any attempts to move it failed. Can I lift the whole socket? Will the ring open if I press it at a certain point? Thanks for any hint as I don't want to destroy the good old qy70 by error...

thank you so much for this info. i had qy20 in the past and it was a huge problem to replace. all this takes is going to store and buying a 2$ watch battery!! i appreciate this info very much thanks!!!!!!!!

i went to store to buy the battery cr2032. after unscrewing the case(screws were in very tight!)
it took about 5 seconds to take dead battery out and put new one in!!
this is not like the qy20 which had to be soldered on! and i am glad yamaha have become smart and used a user replacable battery!
push the battery towards the spring(closed side)of the black holder it lifts right out btw.

Thanks, that's great-!

But i've another problem with my QY70. Which cable do i need to connect the QY70 with my PC? Has it to be a special Yamaha cable?

I was worried about losing recordings ad other data when changing the lithium battery so I put 6 AA's in and switched the QY70 on while I changed it. It worked fine.

You can buy a midi/USB cable to load to your computer

great info - i used it some time back to change the battery in mine - worked fine but didnt think to put in the AAs while changing & had to use a slightly old midi bulk dump to restore - only thing is qy wont work with logic audio 4.2.2 like it used to - nothing happens -it still works with cubase -any ideas?
cheers

Thanks, very good to know :-) I have a QY70 that I picked up on eBay about a year ago and I was wondering about the battery. For now it works, though. :)
